Community Assessment update 2017-2018

Comparison of Head Start to K-3 Public Schools in Service Area
Data from MHCC Head Start is comparable to the K-3 data from the five school districts in the service area. Attendance is comparable in three of the five districts and slightly lower in the other two. The percentage of children with disabilities is lower in the school districts, probably because the requirements to be on an IEP are more stringent when children are enrolled in public school. The percentage of homeless children is comparable between Head Start and the districts. Further investigation is needed to ensure that Head Start is offering all eligible foster families with the opportunity to enroll.
